Broward military supplier offers a hurricane kit for civilian use

Fort Lauderdale-based Cyalume Technologies created the light stick more than 40 years ago, and is the exclusive supplier to the U.S. and NATO-country militaries for all of their chemical light needs.

The stick, and sales of tactical training equipment to the military and law enforcement, have propelled the company to $41.2 million in annual revenue.

Now, the company plans to fuel a South Florida expansion through sales of its first consumer safety product, a curated hurricane preparedness kit designed to sustain families when basic services such as electricity, food, water and first aid are suddenly unavailable.
