The Importance of Investing in Quality Gear
One of the primary considerations when shopping for emergency gear is budget. Few of us are independently wealthy and therefore we need to make every dollar count. One of the best ways to do that is to invest in quality rather than shopping strictly based on price.
If you buy something that’s good quality, you’ll have to replace it far less often than a similar item that wasn’t built to the same standards.
There are other consequences to purchasing inferior products, too. Equipment that is made cheaply or with substandard materials is more likely to fail when in use. For an example, an alarm clock; if it doesn’t work correctly, the worst thing that could happen is you’ll oversleep and have to rush to make it to work on time. On the other hand, if something goes wrong with your emergency water filter, you could end up extremely sick or worse.
Think about it like this. If you are buying something with the express purpose of relying upon it to keep you and your family safe and secure during a disaster, it should be of the highest quality you can afford.
Granted, a hefty price tag isn’t always an indication of high quality. Be sure to read reviews, both positive and negative. Once the product arrives, take it out of the package and play around with it. Gain a good understanding of how it works, what it will do, and what it won’t do. This is the only way you’ll be able to determine if the product will meet your needs and stand up to actual use. Plus, a true emergency isn’t the best time to have to sit down and read through assembly instructions.
