4 Items to Pack for Your Pets During an Emergency

Let’s face it, our pets really are a part of our families. If you’re like us, you can’t imagine them not being safe during an emergency or natural disaster. That’s why we firmly believe in having a plan in place for them, prior to an event, so that you can worry less about their safety.

To be sure you have everything you need, we’ve put together the 5 items you should consider packing for your pets during an emergency.

  1. Food & Water | This is a necessity. You’ll want to have at least a three-day supply of food in an airtight container as many stores will be closed down for days after a disaster.
  2. Medical Records | Your pet’s medical records are just as important as your own. If you are boarding your pet or, if you’ve been forced to evacuate, they need to see a new veterinarian, they will want to see documentation of their medical history.
  3. Collar with ID Tag and Leash | It seems unnecessary to say but you’d be surprised how chaotic evacuating from your home can be when you’re facing an eminent threat. Have an extra ID tag, collar, and leash in your emergency supplies so that you don’t have to worry if you forget or lose your current ones.
  4. A Clear Photo of You with Your Pet | The worst thing that can happen during a disaster with your pet is you becoming separated from them. Make sure you have a photo of your pet and you together on your smart phone or in your emergency supplies kit so that you can show proof they belong to you.
